green shoots 2

A new market report from intelligence provider Key note suggest that output in the UK electrical contracting sector has grown by just under 1% throughout 2013. The sector has been boosted by strong performance in the construction industry throughout the year.

Electrical and Mechanical contracting sectors are largely dependent on the construction industry for overall growth. Whilst smaller businesses may not be involved directly with major infrastructure projects such as Crossrail, such massive projects have a knock-on effect, in that the larger organisations directly involved will require ancillary and support services that they will often sub contract out. Plus, whilst the major players are carrying out these flagship developments, less prestigious works remain up for grabs for smaller and medium-size organisations.

Whilst developments such as The Royal London Hospital and the Mersey Gateway have undoubtedly contributed toward the recovery, unusually initiatives such as the Help to Buy scheme have had a more direct effect on spreading the growth throughout the full range of contracting organisations.

Whatever the reason, there is no doubt that confidence has returned and optimism for the future is spreading throughout the industry.

We may even dare to suggest that we have gone beyond the green shoots of recovery and now are beginning to see the first blossoms of spring.
